HAPPY FATHERS’
DAY!
Fathers play an irreplaceable part in a
child’s growing-up years. I would like to share with you this inspiring
article by Dr James Dobson extracted from the TODAY newspaper (16th
June 2006). “ HOW DADS SHAPE KIDS Someone has said, "If you connect a boy to
the right man, he seldom goes wrong." I fully believe that adage to be
true. If a dad and a son, or a daughter, can develop some common interests together, the rebellious
years shouldn't be all that troubling. I had that kind of father myself, and the full
force of his contribution hit me a few years ago when he suddenly lay dying
of a major heart attack. As I stood by his bedside, I thought back to the
very happiest moments of my childhood... how my dad would get up very early
on a wintry morning and pull on our hunting clothes and head thirty
kilometres out of town to our favourite place. We'd park the car and climb
over the fence and follow a little creek several kilometres in, to an area I
called "the big woods". He'd get me situated under a fallen tree
that made a secret room, and then we'd wait for the sun to come up, listening
to the squirrels and the birds and the chipmunks, and the entire panorama of
nature unfolding before us. Those moments together with my dad were
priceless to me. How could I have gotten very angry at this man who took the
time to be with me? There was a closeness that made me want to be like him;
to choose his values as my values and his dreams as my dreams. That's the
power of a man to set a kid on the
right road, and I can think of no wiser investment of time in the realm of
human experience. ” Click here for more perspectives |

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4
When I first stepped into KPC, I
was impressed and exclaimed to myself, “God has blessed this church with a
nice and big compound!” When I realised we have a
40-youth strong ministry, a voice within me said, “Kuo Yung, this compound
can take way more than 40 youths.” Over the days that follow, a vision for
the youth ministry slowly but surely developed within me. I believe God
planted it there. The vision is this: In 4
years, from 40 to 400 youths. I codenamed the vision MI:4 (or Mission
Impossible 4). Three things I would like to say about our vision: One, the authority. The
power of a vision lies in the vision giver. I’ve shared this vision with our
youths and implored them to pray fervently for the ministry. Iif it is indeed
God’s vision for us, then, the same vision should be impressed and confirmed
in their hearts. I implore you, as direct beneficiaries of this ministry, to
pray fervently with us too! Two, the (apparent)
impossibility. I don’t think KPC ever had a 400 strong youth
ministry in its history. Understandably, many youths find it hard to imagine
this could be possible. But I know one thing – if God planted this vision,
then He will see to its fulfilment. The only thing in between us and God’s
plan for us is our disobedience. Hence the entire youth ministry must seek God
and obey His will. Three, the
numbers. Our pursuit is beyond numbers. No point having 400 youths coming
for the wrong reasons. That would not glorify God. There is only one way
towards our vision: from today onwards, we’ll work on the quality of spiritual
life of everyone in the ministry – from myself to the adult mentors to the
youth leaders to every youth. |

OUR 2 KEY PROGRAMS:
FAITH FACTOR & YLTC
The KPC Youth Ministry will focus its efforts on developing 2 key programs. Encourage your youth to join Faith Factor regularly and when he is ready, YLTC !
Faith Factor is our weekly youth meeting on Sundays (9am – 10:30am) where the youths will worship God together, learn God’s word and spend time in fellowship. It is also a place where seekers can discover God. We are determined to develop Faith Factor into the premium program for all God-seeking youths in Singapore.
YLTC (or Youth Leadership Training Course) is our monthly youth leaders’ gathering on Saturday afternoons where they will be equipped and coached for leadership and servanthood roles in the Youth Ministry. All youths who show desire to develop their faith further will be invited to this platform. In future issues, We’ll look at each of these programs in further details. |
