Dear Parents and Friends,

I do not know how to thank you enough for the encouragement (both in actions and in words) that you have given to your youths and the Youth Ministry. Praise be to God, we are already seeing the “first fruits” of our close collaboration.

The Ministry has seen a growth in the number of youth leaders from 17 in the beginning of this year to 26 as of today. I see the willingness of more and more youths to step forward to serve as a sign of their personal growth and their increasing confidence in the Youth Ministry.

Let us pray that in 2007, God will use this group of leaders to bring forth a spiritual revival in the lives of all our youths and their non-Christian friends.

There are more exciting things which we would like to share with you:

a) Perspectives: Youths Once More

b) Events forecast: What’s up in November and December?

c) Invitation: Fellowship Lunch cum Prayer & Praise Meeting

d) Pray With Us: Interceding for our youths.

Yours sincerely,

Ps Kuo Yung

YOUTHS ONCE MORE

I would like to share an excerpt from the book “Preparing for Adolescence: How to Survive the Coming Years of Change” by Dr James Dobson with you.

I hope it will remind us to never forget our (not so distant) youth days and to freely share the experiences and lessons we have once learnt with our youngsters.

“Most people who have already made the journey through adolescence recall the scary physical changes that were occurring during those early years. We also remember our sexual anxieties and the guilt that was associated with our strange new desires. We have not forgotten the self-doubt and feelings of inferiority that seemed unbearable at times. And, of course, we recall the emotional vulnerability to failure, to ridicule, to embarrassment, to parental attitudes, and especially to any form of rejection by members of the opposite sex. There’s no doubt about it: adolescence was a turbulent voyage for most of us “old folks” (i.e. those over thirty!)

From this perspective, it does seem strange that we parents are so reluctant to share our youthful experiences with our own children. Preteens [and teens] could profit from what we have learned because we’ve been where they are going. Nevertheless, we typically keep our memories to ourselves and permit our boys and girls to sail into the same troubled waters with no preparation or orientation or warning. The result is often disastrous. As I stated in a previous publication, “The primary reason adolescence is so distressing is because youngsters do not fully understand what is happening to them. Many of their fears and anxieties and discouragements could be obviated by a simple instructional program.”…

Thank you for your generous donations! We have raised more than $3,000 for our year-end outreach programs. We trust God to supply our remaining target amount of about $2,000.

YOU ARE INVITED!

The Youth Ministry was tasked to take charge of the monthly Prayer and Praise Meeting on 5th November 2006, Sunday.

We decided not to miss this precious opportunity to share with you how we’ve been doing, to have a lunch date with you, and to present our prayers to God as a united body in Christ.

So really, you must make time for this one, ok?

Lunch shall start soon after service at 12.30pm at the auditorium. (The youths are cooking – please, no worries, the standards will be high.)
